FD Calculation Formula

Compound Interest Formula

A = P × (1 + r/n)nt

Where A is the maturity amount, P is the principal, r is the annual interest rate, n is the compounding frequency, and t is the time in years.

Formula Variables:

A= Maturity Amount (Final Amount)
P= Principal Amount (Initial Deposit)
r= Annual Interest Rate (as decimal)
n= Compounding Frequency per Year
t= Time Period in Years

Compounding Frequencies:

Monthlyn = 12
Quarterlyn = 4
Half-Yearlyn = 2
Yearlyn = 1

Example Calculation:

Given: Principal = ₹1,00,000, Interest Rate = 7% p.a., Tenure = 2 years, Compounding = Quarterly

Formula: A = 1,00,000 × (1 + 0.07/4)4×2

Calculation: A = 1,00,000 × (1.0175)8

Result: A = ₹1,14,888

Interest Earned: ₹1,14,888 - ₹1,00,000 = ₹14,888

💡 Important Notes:

  • • Higher compounding frequency results in higher returns
  • • Most banks offer quarterly compounding for fixed deposits
  • • Interest earned is subject to TDS if it exceeds ₹40,000 per year
  • • Senior citizens get an additional 0.5% interest rate in most banks
